The costs of buying a home in San Diego County are similar to anywhere else in California, although the home purchase may be slightly more expensive than those in suburban towns. You will first have to hire a real estate professional. If you want a full-time agent that is involved in every aspect of the sale, you will have to give them a commission or percentage of the sale. If you want someone that is less involved, you will probably want to hire a flat fee agent. He or she may simply list your home on MLS or be a contact reference for questions.

Buying a new home is a huge investment and most home buyers buy homes out of their price range and pay for it by taking out a mortgage. While obviously the majority of the costs of paying the mortgage go to paying off the house, you may also end up paying at least a percentage of the mortgage to a mortgage broker or lender. You may also be required to hire a home inspector to inspect the home before you can qualify for a mortgage.

While it is not common practice everywhere in the country, many people hire a real estate attorney to look over the terms of the sale before they sign the sale agreement. The last costs of buying a home in San Diego County include half the settlement costs and paying for utilities, water, sewer and taxes once the property is in your name.
