San Diego County’s new construction projects are aimed at providing a wide variety of housing options that will suit a larger audience’s lifestyles. The types of construction range from oceanfront homes and condos to remodeled homes in established neighborhoods to entire golf course communities. San Diego County’s new construction projects offer something for everyone. San Diego County is in southwest California, bordering Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. With a population of nearly 3 million residents, San Diego County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. The median household income in the county is $47,000.

The increased demand for San Diego County new construction has largely been a result of the multitudes of people moving here every year. In the first five months of 2005, the local government issued almost 8,000 building permits for new houses, condos, and apartment units. After a permit has been issued, it takes typically six to eight months to construct a home. Despite rising interest rates and increasing prices, the demand for new construction in San Diego County is continuously on the rise and workers plan on constructing nearly 13,000 homes this year.

In the first quarter of 2005, a new house in San Diego County cost an average of nearly $650,000 while a new condo averaged almost $450,000. With the increasing popularity of condos throughout the country, San Diego County is focusing several of its new construction projects on converting apartments to condominiums.
